Bruce Birmingham changed
the world with a giving heart. He will be sadly missed and never
forgotten for his tremendous impact on health care in our community. Bruce and
his wife Betty have invested more than $1.5 million in our hospital and so much
more to the future of health care at Credit Valley. They were named
Philanthropists of the Year by the Golden Horseshoe Chapter of The Association
of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in 2009.
Their gift to the
regional oncology program has allowed Credit Valley to install advanced imaging
devices on our linear accelerators (radiation machines). They also funded
two digital mammography machines, allowing us to offer faster and better
diagnostics in breast cancer. These gifts have made a profound impact on
oncology patients at The Credit Valley Hospital.
Bruce’s generosity will
be remembered for reaching far beyond his hometown border of Oakville -
extending regionally and nationally across health care, education, sports, arts
and social services. His impact has touched the hearts and souls of all
of us at Credit Valley. His investment will be felt by patients for years
to come.
“Bruce Birmingham’s
contribution to our department, in the funding of digital mammographic machines
has meant a tremendous improvement in our ability to detect early breast
cancer,” said Dr. Barksy, Chief of Diagnostic Imaging, The Credit Valley
Hospital. “He has left a legacy of doing so much to improve the health
and quality of life of countless women in our community.”
“Bruce was a respected
business leader and a caring and generous gentleman,” reflects Rosanna
Petricca, Director of Campaign and Major Gifts, The Credit Valley Hospital
Foundation. “The impact he has made is beyond exceptional and so too was
Bruce. It was an honour and privilege to know him. He will be truly
missed and fondly remembered.”
Our condolences to Betty and the Birmingham
family. Our thoughts are with you at this time as we fondly remember a
hero of health caring.
